About This Grant:
New Mainers Public Health Initiative will send forth three Community Health Workers into 250 homes over a two-year period to individually warn of the serious and immediate effects of smoking, of second-hand smoke, of poor air quality due to smoking, and of potential medical care needed in response to an environment suffused in smoke.
We propose to address the second-hand smoke exposure currently experienced by New Mainer families in five major low-income apartment buildings in Lewiston, Maine, by hiring three Community Health Workers who will conduct in-depth site visits with 125 households within the selected apartment buildings per year.
