About This Grant:
Mount Desert Island Hospital (MDIH) is establishing a scholarship program to provide free screening mammograms for uninsured, underinsured, or economically disadvantaged women who do not qualify for other financial assistance programs. Our service area has the highest incidence of breast cancer in Maine, as well as lower screening rates than the state average. This project is designed to address these concerning trends, while removing identified financial barriers to preventive breast health screening. The proposed program builds on MDIH's commitment to health equity by ensuring that all women ages 40–74 have full access to breast cancer screening mammograms, regardless of their financial circumstances.
