About This Grant:
This project engages the EMMC Cancer Screening & Barrier Reduction Committee (CSBRC), initially established with MCF funding, to increase breast cancer screening rates among LGBTQIA+ populations. The committee, including EMMC primary care and breast imaging providers, will collaborate with Northern Light AVP of Health Equity, AVP of Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion, and Northern Light Health/Optum IS staff. They will address challenges in:
- Correctly identifying transgender patients using EMR data.
- Pulling accurate reports on this population.
- Using EMR data to flag individuals for annual breast cancer screenings.
In consultation with Endocrinology, the committee will align with the American College of Radiology Appropriateness Criteria for transgender breast cancer screening. Funding will support provider and staff training in gender-affirming care and trauma-informed care to create inclusive, welcoming environments for LGBTQIA+ and other patients.
