Patient Transportation Assistance Program
The Patient Transportation Assistance Program covers 25 towns in the Mid Coast area - Arrowsic, Bath, Boothbay, Bowdoin, Bowdoinham, Bremen, Bristol, Brunswick, Camden, Damariscotta, Edgecomb, East Boothbay, Freeport, Harpswell, Lisbon, Litchfield, Nobleboro, Phippsburg, Richmond, South Bristol, South Portland, Topsham, Waldoboro, Waterville, Wiscasset, and Woolwich.
The need is measured both by the number of patients referred to us each month and the types of financial needs they have. Additionally, a supply of emergency gas cards is provided to the Financial Advocate at New England Cancer Specialists to use at his discretion for those patients needing immediate assistance to ensure continuation of their treatment or for an unexpected trip to out of state medical facilities for consultation or treatment. An Emergency Taxi Fund is another service created by the Dean Snell Cancer Foundation to provide vouchers for patients who do not have or unexpectedly lack a ride to or from treatment. The amount of emergency gas cards and taxi vouchers utilized helps us to measure the need for that funding and increase the amount as necessary.
