Maine Lung Cancer Coalition Collective Impact Transition

About This Grant:

MaineHealth (MH) is a not-for-profit integrated health system consisting of nine local health systems and 22,000 employees providing preventive care and treatment to 1.1 million residents of Maine and New Hampshire.

Maine Medical Center (MMC) is the largest academic and tertiary medical center in the state, and the premier teaching hospital in Northern New England. The MaineHealth Institute for Research (MHIR) is the research arm of MH, conducting basic, clinical, translational, and population health research aimed at enhancing the health of our population through research across the spectrum of the biomedical and health sciences.

The proposed project will be conducted at MHIR's Center for Interdisciplinary Population and Health Research (CIPHR), which conducts innovative research to understand and improve patient-centered outcomes in health care, and initiates and evaluates interventions to improve healthcare. The Maine Lung Cancer Coalition is a collaborative, multi-institution statewide partnership with two overriding goals:

Educate about evidence-based practices to reduce lung cancer risk and detect cancers early, and;

Develop innovative strategies to increase access to evidence-based lung cancer risk reduction and screening services for all Mainers, particularly high-risk individuals in rural, underserved areas of the state.

Funding for this grant will support critical staffing infrastructure for the Maine Lung Cancer Coalition, housed at CIPHR, allowing it to continue to function as the backbone organization for its important statewide collective impact approach to lung cancer – including its work to educate about evidence-based practices, and to develop new strategies to increase access to risk reduction and screening services for all Mainers.
