About This Grant:
Defend Our Health will conduct direct outreach in rural and indigenous communities to deliver a comprehensive cancer prevention program focusing on arsenic and PFAS, two carcinogens of concern in Maine drinking water. The program will include educating communities about the importance of well testing to reduce cancer risk, providing support for testing residential wells for arsenic and PFAS—including guidance on accessing state resources and covering testing costs as needed—and helping those with unsafe wells connect to state resources for water mitigation. Throughout the project, Defend Our Health aims to reach a significant number of Mainers with educational outreach, assist individuals with well testing, and ensure that everyone who completes testing receives guidance on their results and support for accessing mitigation and treatment resources.
