About This Grant:
This project will work with stakeholders to designate tobacco-free spaces in Portland's downtown district with the primary objective to protect the health of its youth, workers, residents, and visitors from secondhand smoke exposure. This initiative will operate in two parts: determine the feasibility of policy change and assess community readiness; work towards establishing a strategic plan that will educate community leaders, decision-makers, and the public about the burden of tobacco use and the importance of evidence-based policy initiatives to reduce secondhand smoke exposure. Based on the success of this evaluation, a large-scale media campaign will follow to educate the community on policy change, assist enforcement, and influence social norms.
