Integrating Tobacco Treatment to Reduce Cancer Risk in Behavioral Health Patients

About This Grant:

Through this project, the MaineHealth Center for Tobacco Independence will implement a telehealth-delivered, evidence-based tobacco treatment program with MaineHealth Behavioral Health Outpatient and Comprehensive Addiction Psychiatry Services (CAPS) to reduce risk for all tobacco-related cancers. With 6 practice locations across 4 counties, tobacco use screening rates show that 58% of CAPS patients use tobacco products compared to 23% of all Maine adults. This project seeks to address longstanding disparities in tobacco use, treatment access, and cancer outcomes among behavioral health populations who experience disproportionate tobacco-related harm across Maine.
