About This Grant:
This project increases Maine Transgender Network’s capacity to provide cultural humility training to medical, mental health, and social services professionals, and others involved with cancer screenings, diagnosis, treatment, and related care. Maine is home to an estimated 11,000 transgender individuals; nearly half of transgender individuals self-report delaying or forgoing routine and emergency care due to negative experiences based on providers’ lack of identity-based knowledge. This project supports developing and repairing trust between patients and healthcare providers which may have been compromised by past experiences, improving health outcomes for transgender patients by increasing patient participation in cancer screenings, education, and treatment.
