Wetamawe (Tobacco)

Public Health Research Institute (PHRI) seeks funding on behalf of Wabanaki Public Health (WPH) to address commercial tobacco usage among the Tribal populations in Maine. As a sacred medicine, tobacco being used as a commercial product is counter to Native American cultural values. Our project seeks to create and implement an evidence-based mass media plan that will focus on the sacred aspects of tobacco and raise awareness to discourage commercial tobacco usage.
