About This Grant:
Through conversations with local health providers and community health workers, Healthy Androscoggin has found that health care providers do not have the time to address detailed questions about colorectal health and the topic can be confusing for New Mainers (immigrants and refugees). This two year project will expand screening for colorectal cancer in African immigrant adults using a unique process to educate and encourage testing. Colon Health Rx is a collaboration between an Ethnic Community Based Organization and multiple local health care providers in which providers will “prescribe” an education course where a variety of colon health topics will be discussed in a workshop delivered by trusted New Mainers, and on-site assistance with filling out FIT (Fecal Immunochemical Test) testing materials will take place.
