Improving Colorectal Screening Rates via Use of a Medical Support Assistant

About This Grant:

PCHC will enhance and expand our current colorectal cancer prevention and screening interventions with the addition of a Medical Support Assistant (MSA) to the Quality Department Team. The new team member, funded by this Maine Cancer Foundation grant opportunity, will be responsible for time-consuming administrative functions, such as tracking down test results, flowsheeting data into the electronic medical record, mailing reminder postcards, and initiating recall processes, which are currently performed by our Outreach Medical Assistants (MAs). By delegating these tasks to the MSA we allow the Outreach MAs to effectively utilize their advanced training and expertise to spend more time on direct patient outreach and therefore impacting a greater number of patients.
