Improving Colorectal Screening Rates via Community Support Workers -- A Pilot Project

About This Grant:

Penobscot Communty Health Care (PCHC) will enhance and expand our current colorectal cancer prevention and screening intervention program with the addition of a Community Support Worker to the Quality Department Team. Another organization in Maine has successfully used a community support worker to increase colorectal cancer screening rates, and we propose piloting that model at PCHC. The new team member will be similar to a peer support specialist (a person with lived experience who has been specially trained) and will work with patients in their own environments to encourage all appropriate cancer screenings with a primary focus on colorectal cancer.
