About This Grant:
Healthcare is only as effective as it is accessible. In a predominantly rural state like Maine, the creation of alternative pathways to essential preventative services like cancer screening can make the difference between early detection and treatment, and late-stage cancer diagnosis, at which point positive patient outcomes are greatly diminished. Maine Medical Center's Enhanced Melanoma Screening in Primary Care program aims to embed such alternative pathways, by training and equipping primary care providers to implement dermoscopy and biopsy in primary care settings within four or Maine's most rural and under-resourced counties that have the highest prevalence of melanoma.
