About This Grant:
The Healthcare Access Program serves senior and disabled citizens and cancer patients. Presently our geographic boundaries include 32 towns throughout the four counties of Androscoggin, Cumberland, York and Oxford.
Before the receipt of financial assistance from MCF (beginning April 2010) we were not able to commit to the need of cancer patients requiring considerable, multiple rides for long term treatment programs. For this reason, MCF funding is critical. Without it we would have to shrink our client base. MCF funding is used exclusively for cancer patients. Once MCF funding is exhausted for the fiscal term we supplement (carry) cancer patients with other funding until such time as we can procure new funding designated strictly for cancer patients. To date we have been able to accomplish this and have never had to refuse service to any cancer patient – this includes our having been able to make 5 trips to the Dana Farber Cancer Institute in Boston, MA
Our program does not duplicate state Medicaid-funded transportation programs (e.g RTP). Our clientele are those who do not qualify for said programs.
Since the beginning of this service (April, 2010) through current date, MCF has contributed $38,000 in funding. We project that within this time frame, and by the end of the current grant term, we will have consumed a total of $41,400.
During this time frame we have driven 88,645 miles, provided 1,118 rides, served 88 patients and provided 2,748 hours of volunteer service. 100% of MCF funding is used as driver reimbursements averaging 42 cents per mile. We use other funding to carry our meager overhead.
