Parent-of-Origin Genetics in a Model of Ovarian Ganulosa Cell Tumorigenesis
The purpose of this research is to identify the mechanism underlying paternal transmission of susceptibility in a mouse model of malignant ovarian granulose cell tumorigenesis. The SWR mouse strain offers a spontaneous disease model for juvenile-type GC tumors of the ovary that appear most commonly in infants, children, and very young women. After surgery, there is an innate potential for rapid recurrence, metastases with advanced stage disease and a long-term risk of second primary tumors. Understanding the genetic determinants of this ovarian tumor will lead to cellular mechanisms underlying GC tumorigenesis. Ultimately, this information will lead to effective diagnostic and tumor prevention measures to avoid these undesirable outcomes for young patients.
