Access To Cancer Treatment

This proposal is to request funds to provide financial assistance to cancer patients to enable them to get to their cancer treatments, The Beth Wright Center serves Hancock and Washington Counties where most cancer patients must travel to Brewer to received their radiation treatments. The funds requested will all go to patients with need, all administrative costs will be borne by the Beth Wright Center.

The luckiest of cancer patients we serve only face a 50 mile round trip to receive their treatments but others face as much as a 200 mile round trip to receive their treatments. The Beth Wright Center helps people navigate the costs and logistics of traveling to get to their cancer treatments not only in Brewer but also in Boston or other treatment centers.

The Beth Wright Center has provided $80,000.00 in financial assistance to over 300 people in the past six years to help people access their cancer treatments. We are well aware of the financial and other issues that cancer patients face in accessing their treatments. The Beth Wright Center uses a combination of its own financial assistance program to help defray the costs of gas and or motel stays needed during an individual's cancer treatment regime, the use of volunteer driving programs, plus the use of other programs like Angel Flight or Sarah's House to help those with need. We also refer people to other organizations where they can receive financial and other assistance.

The Center is excited about working with other organizations to better coordinate the awarding of financial assistance to people to access their cancer treatments.
