Reducing Barriers to Cancer Care for Low Income, Rural Residents of Kennebec and Somerset County

About This Grant:

Our goal is to develop a comprehensive system for cancer navigation from prevention and early detection through diagnostics, treatment, survivorship and palliative care /hospice.  We plan to hire an oncology navigator to ensure there is coordination between all levels of care and in particular develop a system of navigation in two major areas where we have a gap in services – oral chemotherapy navigation and survivorship navigation. These two areas are crucial, especially for the 78% of our patients who live outside of Augusta and Waterville in rural Kennebec, Somerset, and Waldo counties.
